Getting More Life Out Of Senior Living!

My folks are getting up there in years and are having doing things they used to take for granted. My heart goes out to them. Here are a few things that really help.

Premium Rolling Walker
When shopping for a walker, you don't want to take chances. This is the most advanced, stable and easiest to use walker I've seen. It weighs under 15 lbs. and folds down so it's easy to transport from place to place. Just fold it down and put it in the trunk of the car. Piece of cake! It has brakes and a basket too.

Swivel Shower Stool
Everybody knows that bathtubs are dangerous places. That's especially true for seniors. This shower stool gives them a safe, stable place to sit while bathing - and helps them keep their independence and dignity too.

After the common hip and knee surgeries, these toilet support systems are very useful:
Raised Toilet Seat
Toilet Safety Support

Livin' The Good Life On The Links!

Golf season is in full swing. And I came across a few items that let me get even more enjoyment out of the game.

If you're like me, you sometimes struggle with your short game - getting the ball in the air from sandtraps and other difficult lies. On the advice of a friend, I gave this Mel Factor super-sized wedge a try. It's hyped as being "the easiest to hit wedge in history," and wouldn't you know it - they're right! The sweet spot is huge so it's almost impossible to shank one. Try it, you'll love it!

Don't you hate walking all over the fairway looking for your ball? The only thing worse is the embarassment of turning the cart around and driving back toward the tee box because your ball is nowhere to be found. Thanks to the golf gods, there's a solution. Just put these golf ball finder glasses on and you can spot your ball a "mile" away. I'm not sure exactly how they work, but they do!

Sometimes, I want to feel like I'm a better golfer than I am That's where these Nitro golf balls come in. They don't conform to USGA spces, but when you blast one off the tee and your buddies' jaws drop in amazement, who cares? Cool stuff indeed.

Summer Solstice

Happy First Day of Summer!

Summer is finally here! And here are just a few of my favorite ways to enjoy Summer in the Heartland!

I love sitting in the backyard reading a book in the shade. Unfortunately we do not have a lot of trees on our lot yet, so I got one of the hanging umbrellas from Heartland it works great. When the sun goes down, I can still enjoy my yard bug free because of the mosquito trap. It does a great job of keeping the alternate state bird... mosquito away from me and my family! We've also been stocking up on solar lights to accent our home! At Heartland's price, it's a deal you cannot pass on.

Wishing you a Happy Summer Solstice!

Spring Fever

Get a jumpstart on your garden

It’s been a long winter here in MN, so when we get nice warm weather like we did this weekend, we all get the itch to get outside and work in the yard. Spring officially starts on Saturday March 20, but that is way too early to start working in the yard. With all of the moisture we’ve had this year, it’s best to stay off your lawn as much as you can. There are a few things that you can do to get started:

Prune trees: it’s a great time to start trimming up the trees. A handsaw works great, but if you do want something with a little more power you can always try the Homelite Gas Chain Saw, it's under $140 and will get the job done in a snap. If you've got a smaller job or just don't want to deal with the mess of a gas chainsaw, you can always try the Tornado Tools 18 volt Chain Saw it's great for smaller jobs and won't cut a chunk out of your wallet!

Start your vegetables indoors: Now is the perfect time to get your indoor greenhouse started and get some dirt under your fingernails! Most stores have the small indoor greenhouses or flat sectioned trays with clear raised lids. These are great for starting your seeds indoors and getting a head start on the short growing season. Heartland even has some LED Miracle Grow Lights that will give your seedlings the extra boost they might need during our cloudy spring.

Tune up your lawn care equipment: There’s nothing like going out for that first mow and finding out the lawn mower isn't working. Get out and make sure everything is gassed up and in working order. The line at the repair shop will be much shorter if you get it all fixed now! Heartland also has some great deals on new lawn and yard care equipment that you might want to check out. I know that once the season starts, we have a hard time keeping it in stock!

Tornado Tools Hedge Trimmer $49.99

Ryobi Gas Backpack Blower $149.99

Tornado Tools String Trimmer $39.99

Stress Free Readings

Blood Pressure Monitor

I just had my annual physical and the doctor told me that I have to keep an eye on my blood pressure. Ugh! It’s not that it’s difficult to do, it’s just such a hassle to run to the drug store to use their machine every time I need to get readings. Then I discovered this blood pressure monitor. It lets me take readings right at home and gives super-accurate results. And it doesn’t strangle my arm like a boa constrictor!

Trust me, buy her diamonds!

Diamond Tennis Bracelet

I’m a bit of a romantic and I just love to buy my wife gifts. So when I saw this genuine diamond tennis bracelet I just had to buy it for her for Valentine’s Day. But when it arrived and I saw the fiery brilliance of the diamonds, I just couldn’t wait until Valentine’s Day. I rushed out and put it on her wrist. She was thrilled beyond belief! Trust me, your wife will love it too!

Great Little Fax

Brother Fax

Even with e-mail, the Internet and other communications technologies, my small business couldn’t live without a good fax machine. So when our old one died after years of service, I picked up this one. I was really surprised at how much it offers for such a low price. I like it so much that I’m going to buy a second one for home.

Back up power for the ice storm

Gas Generator

Seems like this winter will never end. Every time I turn around, we’re getting blasted with snow and ice storms and it looks like another one is going to hit the midwest this weekend. I don’t mind the snow so much, but the ice always seems to snap power lines in our neighborhood and knock out power for a day or two. I am ready for this weekend, I picked up this 3300 watt gas generator. If the power goes out, I am going to be ready!! Hopefully we'll have all the juice we need to keep the lights on, run the space heater and such. It’ll sure come in handy when we go camping this summer too!

Great Gadget!

Zip Spin DVD Duplicator

Over the holidays, my wife and I took loads of home movies of the kids, their friends, cousins, aunts and uncles – you get the picture. Now everybody wants a copy of our movies for themselves. Instead of taking hours and hours copying the DVDs on our PC, I just dropped them into our Zip Spin DVD duplicator. It makes flawless copies in just a few minutes – it’s great for making back-up copies of movie DVDs and CDs too. And it’s so easy to use, I didn’t even have to ask my kids how to work it!

Hidden Secret to saving BIG on High Gas Prices!

Fuel Doctor

Are you as sick of high gas prices as I am? Every time I go to the pump, it makes me sooooo mad! And just when you think prices have stabilized a bit, they start to shoot up again. But I discovered that Fuel Doctor is a great way to fight back. You just plug it into your 12V lighter socket and it increases your vehicle’s MPG by up to 20% - and that’s money in the bank! Now you’re probably as skeptical as I was. But let me tell you, I’m not sure how, but it really works!

Dusting off the record shelf and saving some cash with this Nostalgic styled Turntable.

Anders turntable, cd recorder

When I grew up, vinyl records were king. Even when 8 tracks and cassettes came around, nothing beat the sound of music on vinyl. I still have those old records and now can I take them off the shelf and enjoy them again. This Anders Nostalgic Stereo lets me play my old 45s and LPs and even burn them to CDs. How cool is that? It's really saved me a ton on money, because when I make copies on CD, I don't have to buy the music all over again. And I can take the CDs and listen in my car and on the boombox I have at the office. And the sound of this stereo is as impressive as the style! I was amazed at the clean crisp highs and mids and the smooth velvety lows. It's a real treat for the old eardrums!

Door to door directions, and a happy wife! Thanks Magellan

Magellan GPS

I'm a typical guy. And like typical guys, I flat-out refuse to stop and ask for directions. My wife blames it on the fragile male ego. Truth is, I figure that it will take more time to stop somewhere, get out of the car and ask, then it would to just simply drive around a bit. My wife doesn't buy it. But what she did buy was this Magellan GPS. And boy am I glad she did! We used it when traveling through a snowstorm to visit her folks house for the holidays. It guided us right there without any problems whatsoever. We arrived safe and sound. And my male ego was still intact! :)

Queen Air Bed - Mother knows best

Queen Raised Air Bed

During the holidays, traveled to my in-laws house for a few days. And, to be honest, I wasn't too happy when they told me had to sleep on an air bed. I'd never been on one before and I didn't want to start now. But my grumbling soon turned to gratitude a few minutes after I plopped my tired old bones down. Usually when I sleep in a bed that's not my own, I almost immediately get a back ache. But not so this time around! It provided absolutely perfect support for my entire body - no sagging, no awkward bending. I slept great - and when I woke up I was refreshed and ready to go. Then I had to fess up and tell my mother-in-law how great it was. I hate it when she tells me "I told you so!"
