Spring Fever

Get a jumpstart on your garden

It’s been a long winter here in MN, so when we get nice warm weather like we did this weekend, we all get the itch to get outside and work in the yard. Spring officially starts on Saturday March 20, but that is way too early to start working in the yard. With all of the moisture we’ve had this year, it’s best to stay off your lawn as much as you can. There are a few things that you can do to get started:

Prune trees: it’s a great time to start trimming up the trees. A handsaw works great, but if you do want something with a little more power you can always try the Homelite Gas Chain Saw, it's under $140 and will get the job done in a snap. If you've got a smaller job or just don't want to deal with the mess of a gas chainsaw, you can always try the Tornado Tools 18 volt Chain Saw it's great for smaller jobs and won't cut a chunk out of your wallet!

Start your vegetables indoors: Now is the perfect time to get your indoor greenhouse started and get some dirt under your fingernails! Most stores have the small indoor greenhouses or flat sectioned trays with clear raised lids. These are great for starting your seeds indoors and getting a head start on the short growing season. Heartland even has some LED Miracle Grow Lights that will give your seedlings the extra boost they might need during our cloudy spring.

Tune up your lawn care equipment: There’s nothing like going out for that first mow and finding out the lawn mower isn't working. Get out and make sure everything is gassed up and in working order. The line at the repair shop will be much shorter if you get it all fixed now! Heartland also has some great deals on new lawn and yard care equipment that you might want to check out. I know that once the season starts, we have a hard time keeping it in stock!
